Join us for this wonderful presentation by Jerry Burnell on how to photograph big birds in flight. This meeting is FREE and Open to the Public.

Jerry Burnell is known as a master jewelry designer and craftsman, a photographer, and a technical and yet strongly ascetics-based jewelry and photography judge. Jerry Burnell has competed in the year long Wichita Area Camera Club Photo competition six of the past fifteen years and has earned the coveted "Photographer of the year award" six times. He also has competed successfully in the yearly Great Plains Nature Photographers (GPNP has 1895 facebook members from 7 states) yearly competition. An internationally known judge at GPNP said "If I had known all these awards were the work of, same photographer, I would have been motivated to split my choices a little differently" Jerry Burnell had taken first place in three of the four divisions and "Best of show".

Jerry has a strong background in the hard sciences with a minor in chemistry, and strong academic backgrounds in physics, math and biology, backed up with a bachelor’s degree and almost a masters degree in business administration. Jerry is self-taught in photography, His photography prowess is based on the reading of over 140 Photography books, thousands of magazine articles, attending dozens of seminars along with 43 years of practicing the art and science of photography. Jerry shot over 200 weddings while in college and managed a portrait studio for a while.

He took a step back from photography for a few of years to study the old masters in acrylic and oil painting, composition, followed by five years on the art show circuit all over the country with his hand-crafted jewelry designs and raising kids instead. In 1979 Jerry founded Burnell's Creative Gold at 550 N. Rock Road Wichita Kansas.

Five years ago, Jerry sold the store Jewelry crafting shop and retired at 69 from being one of the most renowned jewelry designers and craftsmen in the central United States and has returned to what has been a very involved hobby: photography .Jerry does not compete much anymore because he likes his definitive images to be printed, and does not print smaller than 13 X 19in.

Jerry Is just as comfortable trekking across the south west desert or caverns under it, or capturing birds in flight images in Florida, as he is setting in front of his twelve-core processor, multi-screen computer, or to photographing a quarter of a million-dollar necklace that they had made. To sum it all up, one of Jerry's ten grand kids was introducing Jerry to her teacher she said, "Grandpa takes really, really good pictures."
