 IMPACT – Light, Color, Emotion

Mansour Center – on R120 (Roswell Road) just one block west of the Big Chicken in Marietta Thursday, September 18, 2014 - 7:00

How do you create images with impact? In this program I will present the aspects of light that bring out the most of what you are photographing. Too often we take light for granted. I will show images for the various aspects of light and explain how to use the light creatively. There are three aspects of light – color, hardness and direction. I will cover color, soft light, hard light, side light, top light, front light and back light. Sample images are used to show the way to use light to bring impact and an emotional response to images.

The color of light differs from the time of day. Early morning light is yellow warm and rich, late day light can be cool or red warm. How do you use the color to bring impact and a response from the viewer of your images? Let me show you. 678-427-5423 This email address is being protected from spambots. NE Atlanta Chapter
I have been an active amateur photographer for almost 40 years.  In the early 2000’s I made the transition to digital and then in 2013, after retirement, I became much more active in photography as photographer, student and president of the NE Atl chapter of GNPA.  I have also served as a judge for photography contests both inside and outside of GNPA activities.

Our chapter has enjoyed exceptional growth in its one year of existence with average attendance of 40-45 photographers at each of our meetings.  We also now have almost 250 members of our NE Atl GNPA Meet-up group.   We currently have an exhibition at The Rectory in Norcross, Ga. which attracted over 30 photographers who submitted 133 images for consideration for inclusion in the exhibit.

Our PR officer, Rita Songer, has done an exceptional job of putting together the exhibit and assuring that it is well organized and professionally displayed.  Our Field Trip Leader, Stewart Woodard, has executed several successful field trips and has many more planned.  Our meetings include presenters on subjects ranging from processing to capture to where to shoot.

2014-09-HoraceH playing with Topaz Adjust low res-rzWe plan to increase our activity in educational meetings; workshops on capture, processing and printing; juried exhibits; and more exciting field trips.

Topics for Coastal Georgia GNPA September meeting:

1.) Elements of an excellent image as seen through the eyes of judges.  An evaluation of images submitted for a recent exhibition and how some could have been made stronger.

2.) Building an energized, growing and exciting chapter.
